About me

My name is Jo. I’m a Social Worker with experience in disability support, mental health, child protection and foster care, domestic violence, trauma, complex grief and loss, palliative care counselling, behaviour support, and parenting skills.
My approach is strengths based, person centred, neurodiversity affirming, and play based. That means I believe you are the expert in your own life, that maybe I can help you learn some new skills and ways of being that might be helpful for you. It means I believe neurodiversities such as Autism and ADHD are not conditions that need to be “fixed”, rather they are different ways of being and interacting with the world. It means I believe that it takes hundreds of practices to learn a new skill, unless you make it play based; then it takes a handful of times.
I’ve worked in government and non-government roles, volunteered in the community, and worked in various roles within higher education. Among other things, I’ve been a behaviour support practitioner, a caseworker, a clinician, an assessor, a mentor, a supervisor, a trainer, a project manager, and an academic tutor. In my pre-social work life I managed cafes, restaurants, and tourist attractions around Australia.
I have Working with Children checks in NSW, QLD, VIC, ACT, and SA and National Criminal History clearance.
